Percival Everett

Percival Everett is author to more than thirty books and fiction and poetry. Among his titles are the novels Telephone, So Much Blue, Erasure and Glyph. His latest novel is The Trees. He has been awarded Guggenheim and Creative Capital fellowships. He is Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California.

The paintings in Once Seen serve as companion to Percival Everett's novel The Trees. Everett uses oil paints, water colors and photographs of his own paintings to create the portraits of an American landscape that is ever-present but conveniently ignored.

“These works came into being over a period of two years, starting in 2019 when I began work on my novel The Trees. It was the one century anniversary of the Red Summer, a summer that saw so many lynchings in the United States, that sadly has been repeated recently, that led to these paintings and the novel.”
