PERCIVAL EVERETT

“PREDICATE LOGIC”

JUNE 12 – OCTOBER 2, 2025 OPENING: JUNE 12, FROM 5:00 PM

CARLOCINQUE Gallery is pleased to present Predicate Logic, the first solo exhibition in Italy by American writer and artist Percival Everett, on view from June 12 to August 2, 2025. Percival Everett unveils his visual research in a project that stands as one of the key moments in La Milanesiana 2025. Curated by Elisabetta Sgarbi and Luca Volpatti, the Exhibition is organized in collaboration with Show Gallery and Margot Ross.

Author of over thirty novels and a central figure in contemporary American literature, Percival Everett was awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for James, published in Italy by La nave di Teseo. In this novel, Everett offers a radical reinterpretation of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, restoring to the character of the enslaved Jim a central, autonomous role: no longer a marginal presence, but a fully aware protagonist and agent of his own destiny.

The works gathered in Predicate Logic reflect the same intellectual and formal tension that animates his writing. Everett’s painting never yields to narration or illustrative intent: it is an autonomous practice, built through stratification and contrast, in which abstraction becomes a field of inquiry into identity, perception, and the threshold of the invisible. Each work demands an active response, returning to the viewer the responsibility of interpretation.

With this exhibition, CARLOCINQUE Gallery reaffirms its commitment to presenting artistic visions that challenge the present, welcoming an author whose gaze moves with precision and freedom across literature and the visual arts, beyond all categorization.

A professor of literature and critical theory at the University of Southern California, Everett is known for a body of work that consistently interrogates the structures of language and power, navigating genres and registers with coherence and radical intent. Alongside his literary production, he has carried forward for over three decades a visual practice grounded in abstraction as a form of thought, construction, and dissent.
